back to work

I've just returned from a few days in Rome, so haven't been able to do much in the way of college work, but I do have lots of photos for inspiration for this and future projects. What a fantastic city, everywhere are beautiful churches and monuments. Visited the Vatican museums and was blown away by the variety and richness. What caught my attention most were the ceilings and floors, so very lovely. Here are a few which fall into the category of 'geometric', the theme of this current project.

The textures of the marble and stonework were truly amazing.

So now it's back to work to catch up on my motifs for screen-printing.

Another year

So, another year, another project and a new blog. Lots to do and be inspired by, so I'm busy, busy, busy, busy.

I'm currently working on a textile project based on the theme of Geometric and trying to lean towards one of my favourite art movements - Art Deco.

I love working with mono-print. I wanted straight lines but also to get some of that lovely texture into the image.

Monoprint overprinted with 3 different media -coloured pencil, fine-liner and crayon.

My last session in the studio was really enjoyable, doing a 3 layer screenprint. I have to admit that, due to time restraints, it was a collaboration with two others, but we all got the chance to print a layer and have a bit of the resulting print to put in technical sketchbooks. It seemed a shame to have to cut up the print as we were all so proud of our first real attempt. I think it was the first time I was able to recognise that screenprinting is not just about adding colour to the design, but that each layer adds something else to the design. A valuable lesson learned.

Anyway here is a couple of photographs, you will notice it's not perfectly aligned but I really like it. I can't wait to get more into the technique using my own designs.
